Saturday at Gamicon Psi

Here are some highlights from Saturday at Gamicon Psi at the Iowa Memorial Union.

Corridor Games on Demand display. It reads, "Do you like games? We can help!"

While at Hamburg Inn No.2 Friday evening for dinner, we discussed Fiasco and it was more or less unanimous decided that we would all be interested in trying the Fiasco playset about time traveling through the life of one man, Sam Howard in All the Damn Time.

Saturday morning, all the Sam Howards try to figure out what to do with themselves. Special thanks to Evan T. for facilitating the temporal continuity.

David MK GMs his first official Psi*Run game for Jimmy S., Dan G.K., and Jeremy. The Runners were a rogue metahuman project (crossing X-Men and the Fantastic 4). The Chasers were a sinister SHIELD-type organization. So many amazing action scenes, including the destruction of the Chasers' flying fortress, turning it into a flaming fireball which crashed into Beijing, China.

David MK (the Engineer) facilitated Our Last Best Hope for Tim (the Soldier), Kathleen (the Scientist), and Jimmy S. (the Doctor). We played the Space Mission. Our Crisis was "A massive alien derelict is on course to collide with Earth."

The crew of Lola found a way to work together for the good of humanity, in spite of threats from aliens mind control rays, a malfunctioning MIMIC, a flesh-eating space-virus, and betrayal from within.

Unfortunately, their brave efforts and noble sacrifices were not good enough as the alien ship still managed to collide with the Earth, destroying all life on it, leaving only the Soldier, the Doctor and a few red shirts in a mostly finished shuttle to carry on the human race elsewhere.

Jimmy S. GMed tremulus for Dan G.K., Jacob, and Kathleen.

David facilitated The Quiet Year for Val and Jason D. The Community survived many threats through design and fortune, but we'll never know if they would have managed the Cult Crisis -- the Frost Shepherds arrived.

David MK GMed his second game of Psi*Run for Lisa, Tasha, Jeff, and Dan C. It was going to be a short game to help demonstrate how it worked. It ended up being one of the most hilarious in-character banter/drama/action/thriller sci-fi-esque games that lasted about six hours, ending around 2 a.m. We laughed and we cried from laughing more. There are so many phrases from this game that I cannot repeat in public. So many things wrong that my sanity was bent into an origami igloo where good thoughts went to sleep in a fetal position. The Runners began as innocent victims who changed into proactive soldiers fighting against the madness and tyranny of evil in the world.

The Runners: Lisa (played the Speedster), Tasha (played the Shapeshifter), Jeff (played the Telekinetic), and Dan C. (played the Empathy Projector).

  2. And I will never look at my own butt-skin the same way. Thanks for running, and putting up with our late-night nonsense. I bought the game on Sunday, and I'm looking forward to putting my friends through similar adventures.
